Project 3 – Re-mix Volume

1. Initial Communication

From the brief, this project is about remixing our previous work in Project 2. For that, Winston, Nora, Shirley, and I exchanged our feelings for the poem and ideas of publishing forms in Project 2 at first. And we discussed several output forms as a volume to contain our remix work creatively in the first meeting.

2. Idea

It is a little confused for all of us to continue because we have not developed an idea in the first meeting. So, we use the method of brainstorming to help us think broader. The poem shows that the poet walked out from a negative state and had faith in life again. And we found that many people may lose confidence and feel depressed in a certain stage of life as William Wordsworth described in the poem. Most of them may not have a strong mind and it is hard for them to walk out from the negative state. So they need to depend on the psychiatric drug to help them overcome the emotion and thoughts out of control. But these psychiatric drugs usually have side effects，and may develop symptoms like illusion and chaos of memory after using the medicines. So we decide to remix our previous work in project 2 based on this idea.

We also want to develop our remix work in the form of branding to communicate our ideas to our audience who may feel confused and discouraged at a certain stage of life. And the title of our volume is called “ripple”, which means a small wave on the surface of a liquid. Our target audience is usually the kind of people who are sensitive and easily affected by the outside world. So we hope to express that our trivial work can also have a little impact on such groups. After that, we made a plan to progress our work and assigned roles according to our skills and preference in the second meeting.

5. Branding

The design process of our branding logo ‘Ripple’. It is designed by our brand designer Winston.

6. Remix Video

In the third meeting, we displayed our visual experiments and discussed how to present in the remix video in an interesting way to communicate our thoughts.

7. Social Media and Marketing

Our brand designer Winston made a promotional video to help Shirley who is responsible for Social Media for publicizing.

Nora designed the poster based on our remix video. We considered the form of poster could be  one sheet book which is convenient to communicate to our audience.

In the fourth meeting, we integrated and sorted out our completed work and make some improvements. And then, Shirley posted them all included final work and all processes in our Ins.

Summary

Introduction

This project is teamwork about remixing our previous work from project 2. Winston, Nora, Shirley from Danny’s group, and me were allocated in a group because the themes we did in project 2 are about the same poem, Resolution, and Independence written by William Wordsworth. In this project, each of us needs to undertake a key role and work together to display our republishing work based on the creative idea.

My involvement

The key role I undertook is the space organizer which is responsible for visual integration. I also provide technical support to bring ideas into reality and display it creatively. But the time for this project is limited and we just have four group members. So we did not only finish the work the role need to do, but also helped each other and developed our work to be better improved. At first, we communicated our thoughts from previous work and developed an idea through brainstorming together. Then, we allocated the job we want to take responsibility for and made a plan to control the whole progress after having a preliminary concept. After that, I extracted elements from our previous work and integrated them based on our ideas. And I applied motions into our work and combined them with the music through After Effects to display them in a better way. Except for that, I also provided some technical supports for my group members. To publicize our work to a target audience in our social media, I created split-screen posters for Shirley to help obtain a better display effect.

Challenging aspects

Although the work of our team was completed, I still encountered some challenging things in the process. Although we have made the plan before, there still are some unexpected problems in the process of completion. Except for that, I also found that timely and effective communication is very necessary for teamwork because what everyone thinks of is different when an idea is launched and it is hard to make sure that other people get what I want to communicate. Since each of us has a different perspective on poetry in the previous project and our starting points are also not the same, so it is difficult for me to think about how to extract and combine them into a volume based on our developed ideas. Otherwise, I also try to learn how to use After Effects to achieve the effect that I want to apply to our creative works, but some operations of the software made me feel very confused. Nevertheless, I still completed it and achieved some great work that was beyond my expectation. I think that difficulties are inevitable when I try something new that I have not touched before. And I thought that I have learned a lot In the process of cooperating with other classmates.
